"What are those ducks nattering about?"
Gweenie watches the Old One scowl at the little creatures. They were fuzzing quite a bit... as ducks fuss. That sort of warble sound with a few sharp quacks. So, she opened the door and they marched in like little troupers and one by one hopped into their box and settled in. Then she heard it, thunder.
"Ah... a wee bit nervous there might be a storm."
The Phantom grabbed some packets of seeds and went to the small garden by the well and turned up little rows of earth. She hummed and talked to the seeds and the earth. Suddenly she looked very sad.
"Bibble?" says Gweenie.
"They might grow and they might not, but I will always try. The rain helps them. The poppies... wonder how she always got them to grow?"
Gweenie was about to ask who when the Phantom dusted off her hands and announced there was something in the kitchen she must look after. Gweenie followed her in and discovered a small door by the glowing box. Had that been there before? It looked just her size. She saw the Phantom's smiling face and squeeked,"For me?"
"Yesss... little one... go home." Gweenie didn't make another sound. She scurried across the kitchen and flung open the door.
"Beam me up!" she cried. The little creature turned and hugged the Phantom's legs and ran through the door. She didn't look back. The Old One had a tear in her eye. It would be quiet around the castle now... but the Little One was home at last.
Don't forget May 22!
